Let’s hop on to do a thorough intro to our living room! Here’s a bird’s eye view of our living room! To begin intro of our living room, let’s talk a little about the concept. While researching during our pre reno phase, I, like many others(?), fell into the rabbit hole of interior design trends. I was particularly drawn to a few interior design styles (more popular in western countries) such as mid-century modern, postmodern and retro and also a few concepts of home design. One of those concepts is making your living room a conversation space. To do that, we chose to demarcate our living space with a huge rug and designed it such that we can add chairs on the left and right of the sofa. Another concept was art walls, which might be a bit tacky, especially with the frame tv. Eventually that manifested into us collecting art from around the world and little trinkets from our travels etc. So our living room kind of became an mis-mash of interest, memories and whatever we like. Lastly is midimalism. Unpopular opinion, minimalism is overrated ahaha! Maximalism is also too much for daily living. So we aim to inject our personality into the space with colours and personal items, without feeling overboard (subjective I know, but I think we’re ok)! With this, take a look at the rest of the living room! 😂😂😂

Let’s talk sofa! Our main criteria for our living room (among many others) was to have a recliner! This was one of our non-negotiables. We fell in love with the “butt-feels” of a Homes To Life sofa and wanted to use it for our home. However finding a suitable model isn’t easy. Recliners are generally known to be bulky. A high back design also wasn’t gonna work well with our open concept design. Eventually we found this sofa design that we really liked - the Homes To Life Santa. It’s a boxy design that has clean straight lines across the sofa, giving it a more contemporary look. For colour, we chose a colour that is more neutral and can provide a retro-vibe, so that it can complement the rest of our house. Many people have fell asleep on this sofa, I guess that will attest to its comfort.

For our living area, we also went for a no built-in concept because we decided to go with speakers. To optimise the sound from the speakers, we opted for the stands. As a result, we told our id that we were not going to do a built in console, which we initially wanted. This turns out to be a blessing in disguise because we now have the flexibility of moving our furniture around (if we want to)! At the beginning, we didn’t have a console. Back then, we used these aykasa crates as our media console. It housed the one connect box for our tv and the amp for our speakers. We have since then upgraded our console to the Hay colour cabinet! And now we use these crates mostly as storage!

One of the things we have at home which is really rare in newer homes is a CD player. Vinyl player, there are plenty. But CD player… let us know if you have one too! While growing up, we have collected a lot of CDs in the process. It seems like a counter-intuitive move to hop on to the vinyl trend with all our CDs sitting in our household shelter. As such, we decided to buy a CD player, mostly for the vibes 💗

And just one last photo of our house at night, with our “small” lights This will always be a spot at home that we’ll continue to add on and change out, and this is what we’ve got at the moment! 😬 Till the next one, bye!
