Do you also have a pegboard (from IKEA) in your home? Our pegboard has been through a lot - it used to be in Duck’s office, before she moved it home during lockdown and in the last 6 years, it’s been used in her office, in her old study room, at our entryway, in our new home office and finally in our bedroom!
So you could say we’re pretty experienced with maximising the pegboard - here’s how we’ve managed to turn it into our vanity centrepiece with a few hacks!
We’re using a dashboard style for the vanity - which means having all our essentials in one single place so we can get ready and go quickly in the morning. Here’s a little breakdown of how our items are laid out!
We have a standing pegboard in the middle of a low shelf (the Platsa from IKEA) with a small tray below to contain small items.
This is also mainly because we don’t have space for a proper vanity in our bedroom (thanks to the king sized bed and HDB’s space allocation😢) so the pegboard and shelf serve both as vanity, bedside table and a divider between the bed and wardrobe area.
First up - jewellery! We’re using these hooks from IKEA to hold everyday rings and necklaces. Duck finds this more convenient than an actual ring holder or necklace stand (which takes up space we don’t have). She also swaps out the jewellery to rotate between different pieces so what’s on the pegboard remains minimal
(We say it like she has a lot of jewellery but she actually only has like 3 necklaces 🤣 hint to Frog?)
Beside the jewellery collection, we also have these clips that help to hold up… pimple stickers 🤣 very important for when you’re already past 30 and still having bad skin 😅
The other clips hold up any random samples or trial packs that Duck wants to try - so we don’t leave them in the drawers to get forgotten forever
And lastly to the very right, we have these giant “hook” things that are excellent for keeping hair ties and scrunchies 😊 these are actually NOT from IKEA - we got them on Taobao, from a store that 3D prints accessories for IKEA pegboards.
This has been a lifesaver because you get to explore so many other functions/storage options for the pegboard apart from what’s available in IKEA :)
And of course.. the best part of the pegboard is that it’s double sided :)
So the other side serves as Duck’s bedside table -we have another 3D printed shelf here that holds a clock and a mini bedside lamp, as well as a rack thing (can you believe this is supposed to be a pot cover holder 🤣) that holds her book(s) for bedtime reading!
The little shelf actually comes with a groove in the front that acts as a phone stand - but my phone wasn’t there because… I was using it to take this photo LOL.

And ofc the biggest question - how does our pegboard stand upright on its own?
Through (once again) these custom “legs” we bought off Carousell a long time back! We’ve honestly liked these more than the original IKEA table mounts, which don’t fit many of our tables because the tabletop is too thick :(
To end it off, this is how our pegboard-vanity-bedside table looks like from the side.
Definitely not the most aesthetic or beautiful as compared to regular vanities or custom built carpentry, but it’s been really functional AND we love the flexibility of being able to shift things around as our needs and lifestyle changes :)
