Located at Compassvale Bow, this 5-room resale unit began in a very typical state. Plain white walls, standard fittings, and a layout that felt more functional than inspiring. Like many resale flats in Singapore, it carried the basics but lacked warmth, character, and a sense of home.
The challenge (and opportunity) was to transform these blank spaces into a cohesive, welcoming home that reflects the lifestyle and personality of its owners. From the bare bedrooms and utilitarian kitchen to the simple living and dining area, every corner had potential to be uncovered.
By replanning the house's layout, we carved out a welcoming foyer that feels both cosy and functional. The dark wood cabinetry wraps around the space, providing generous storage while cleverly concealing the bomb shelter, a common but often awkward element in resale flats.
We introduced a built-in bench and a full-length mirror to balance function with comfort. This makes daily routines like slipping on shoes and doing a quick check before heading out smooth and enjoyable. What used to be an empty corridor is now a practical yet elegant entry point that sets the tone for the rest of the home.
The living and dining areas were intentionally kept minimal to highlight space and light. By stripping back unnecessary bulk, the home feels more expansive and uncluttered, giving the family room to breathe and move freely. Soft curtains filter natural light into the space, adding to the calm, open atmosphere.
To complement the open layout, a dry pantry corner was introduced. This not only adds convenience for daily routines like making coffee or grabbing quick bites, but also helps free up the main kitchen for heavier cooking. A thoughtful detail of the lower cabinetry doubles as a docking station for the robot cleaner, giving it a “home” of its own while keeping the floor area neat.
The kitchen entrance was reconfigured to open directly into the living and dining area, creating a stronger connection between the spaces. This subtle shift makes the home feel larger, brighter, and more fluid in its flow.
A sliding glass door now defines the kitchen, keeping cooking smells contained when needed, while still allowing natural light to pass through. The glass also helps the kitchen feel visually connected instead of boxed in, striking the right balance between openness and practicality.
The kitchen was reimagined with a clean, timeless look that balances functionality with a calm, understated elegance. Warm wood grains pair with light-toned upper cabinets, creating a soft contrast that keeps the space bright and inviting.
Practicality is layered into every detail, from a dedicated tall unit that houses the oven, to a sleek pull-down dish rack above the sink. The countertops and backsplash were finished in sintered stone, chosen for their durability and seamless appearance, making everyday cooking feel effortless.
The design intent was simple: to create a kitchen that feels open and welcoming, yet quietly hardworking, a space where daily routines flow with ease.
The common bath was designed to feel inviting and calm, moving away from the plain, utilitarian look of most resale flats. Warm wood-effect tiles line the walls, bringing a sense of nature and grounding to the space, while light-toned flooring keeps it bright and airy.
A floating vanity in a soft stone finish was added to create the illusion of more floor space and to make cleaning easier. The organic-shaped mirror adds a playful, modern touch, softening the straight lines of the cabinetry and tiles.
The overall intent was to create a bathroom that feels refreshing and uplifting a space where daily routines are met with comfort and ease.
The master bedroom was reconfigured by shifting the wall slightly, allowing for a larger and more comfortable layout. This subtle adjustment created enough room for a full wall of wardrobes while still keeping the space open and uncluttered.
A soft, tonal palette of greys was chosen to evoke calm and restfulness. Sheer curtains filter natural light gently, while blackout drapes offer privacy and comfort at night. The custom bedhead with concealed lighting and round wall sconce creates a warm, intimate glow, which is perfect for winding down before sleep.
The design intent was to make the master a true retreat, simple, spacious, and serene, with every detail contributing to a restful atmosphere.
The master bath was designed as a calm, refined retreat. A palette of warm wood tiles and light stone tones brings both contrast and harmony, creating a space that feels grounded yet airy.
A glass partition cleanly separates the wet and dry zones, keeping the layout practical while maintaining a sense of openness. The floating vanity, paired with a textured stone basin and matte black fittings, adds a modern edge while making the room easier to maintain.
Every element here was chosen to elevate daily routines into rituals from the rainfall shower experience to the soft, natural finishes that make the space feel timeless and soothing.
