In the middle of renovation chaos, the dust, the drills, the endless to-do lists, we found ourselves holding on to one simple vision: calm. Not everywhere, not in every room, but in small, intentional corners that would remind us to pause and breathe.
We know from early on that we didn’t just want a home that looked beautiful; we wanted a home that felt like us. And for us, that meant creating spaces where we could slow down, step away from the noise, and simply be.
When we imagined these corners of calm, we didn’t picture anything extravagant. It was as simple as a chair by the window, where morning light could spill in and warm the floor.
Or a small nook with shelves for the books we’ve collected over the years, stacked without order but rich with memory. A table tucked quietly against the wall, always ready for tea, a journal, or a conversation.
During the messiest days of renovation, those imagined corners kept us going. When everything around us looked chaotic, with tools everywhere, wires dangling, dust coating every surface, we could still close our eyes and picture those finished spaces.
The thought of sitting in a soft chair by the window, sipping coffee for O and drinking tea for J, was enough to remind us why we started.
It also shaped how we made decisions. Every time we picked a piece of furniture, a paint color, or even the placement of a socket, we asked ourselves: will this help create the calm we’re hoping for?
t became less about making things picture-perfect, and more about making them feel right. Because calm doesn’t come from perfection but from intention.
The pieces we chose to decorate our little corners of peace and calm, some of these pieces and corners were designed for quiet moments alone. A seat by the window where one of us could read on a rainy afternoon.
Other spaces were designed for shared calm — like a dining table that wasn’t too big or too small, but just right for lingering conversations after dinner, or a sofa that invited us to curl up together at the end of a long day. And our breakfast table that served as our dining table for just the both of us as we wind down after a long day of work.
Now that we’re here, actually living in the space, these corners have become our favorite places. They’re not the grand parts of the house, not the feature walls, not the big statement pieces.
But they’re the spots that truly feel like home. The quiet corners where life slows down, where we can hear ourselves think, where we can laugh, reflect, and rest.
It’s funny because when we started this renovation, we thought the most exciting parts would be the big transformations: tearing down walls, choosing the kitchen layout, watching rooms take shape.
But what we’ve come to love most are these small, intentional corners. The little pockets of calm that remind us that home isn’t just about design, it’s about how it makes us feel every day.
And in these corners of calm, we’ve found the truest reflection of us.
