We used Planner5D to design mid-fi renders of our place! This was done unrushed over years while waiting for our BTO to be completed, with minor tweaks as we evolved our style and choice of furniture, materials, colours, and layout!
We stuck these renders for each room for our main contractor’s reference so that it was visually clear what we wanted our first home to be like.
To get a sense of furniture size and proportions, we marked out all of the pieces we had in mind using masking tape.
And then the reno began! Knocked down 1 wall separating the living and a bedroom to expand our common area!
Then we concrete screeded the whole place (which meant lots of barrier taped areas for a couple of days!
We worked with our contractor closely and remained really flexible along the way. About 20% of our original plan had minor work arounds or tweaks based on our discussions with our main contractor, and we truly appreciated his experienced views!
TIP: Don’t fret over the minor details and imperfections (or even go around micro managing every aspect). Respect your contractors and work within what is feasible for them to build.
Our kitchen foundation in progress!
Kitchen 90% there!
Our bathroom retained the original layout of the exposed points, and we went with a two tone style to visually separate the shower area from the rest.
Our whole reno took 2 months from start to finish. This meant moving into estate really early, so we purchase an Electrolux air purifier to help with the construction dust!
And finally we installed all of our lights! Our plan was to use and work with as much of the original layout as possible, and we repositioned our dining light with a hook (no false ceiling). This also makes it easy to reposition the light if we play around with our dining layout in the future.
