Gain City Group Buy - Everything You Need to Know π
33
After sharing our experience with Audio House, we thought it would be helpful to also share about Gain City, which is another retailer we ended up buying some of our appliances from. They run frequent group buy programs, and while we didnβt check other major retailers, GC is usually one of the first large retailers people think of for BTOs. Maybe it is because their advertising has been widespread, so we ended up going with them too. Hopefully, we made a good decision. FYI only the GC Sungei Kadut branch runs the group buy program, since it is their largest outlet. Thankfully, they provide shuttle buses from Yew Tee and Chua Chu Kang MRT. In terms of pricing, GC was generally more expensive than Audio House for some of the items we were interested in. In some cases, the difference was quite significant π For example, we got our TV at $3,299 at Audio House, while GC quoted $4,199. On the other hand, GC offered a wider selection, so it really depends on whether you prioritise variety or cost savings. Not saying all from GC is expensive, there are definitely exceptions, so it comes down to which items you are looking at. Of course, we calculated carefully and combined our purchases into the best pot we could between Audio House and GC. The display sections at Sungei Kadut branch felt a little better than Audio House, but honestly still quite confusing for us as first-time homeowners π€― We went down a few times over the weekend before we finally got the hang of how things are calculated, so we thought we would share what we learned. There was a dedicated area with staff to assist homeowners and key in the pricing into their Excel macro. Do note that some items need to have their invoice opened at the department itself rather than at the cashier. For example, aircon invoices have to be done at the aircon section, and the same goes for toilet bowls. On top of that, not everything is eligible for the group buy. Toilet accessories, for instance, are excluded. So, the best is to always check with the salesperson. We feel it is only really worth it if you are buying multiple items. Otherwise, it might be better to look elsewhere and speak directly to a salesperson who can offer a better discount. For our aircon, we ended up going with GC. From what we have heard, the experience really depends a lot on which installer you get. GC is such a big company with so many different teams, so the workmanship can vary quite a bit. Poor workmanship can easily lead to issues like water leaking, pipe choke, gas leaks or even condensation. Honestly, we are still not sure if paying a premium with GC is worth it, but we will see how it goes and share our experience here someday. If we get a good installer, we will definitely try to take down his name and contact so we can share with others too. Most importantly, make sure you, your partner and your ID are around to monitor the aircon piping installation, because once it is done, IT IS REALLY DONE FOR REALZ π Here is how the promo works! Hope this help you in your purchase! π Save it for future reference ya~ Practical Tips β’ Do Your Homework: Decide on the exact product you want before going down, including the colour. Sometimes the same model in a different colour is priced differently. β’ Invoices: Always double-check your invoices carefully. We realised our group buy discount was not applied to a few items and only caught it after reviewing. β’ Deals & Discounts: New homeowner deals cannot be stacked with in-house promotions, so check which one gives you better value. β’ Warranty: Compare the warranty period across retailers to make sure you are looking at like-for-like. β’ Payment Promos: Ask about credit card deals or payment mode discounts. Some can give you additional cashback or rebates. β’ Model Updates: Check if there is a newer model. Older models often drop in price once the new version is released. β’ Documentation: Bring a pen and paper to jot down details, prices and conversations with staff.
