Welcome to our warm, cheerful kitchen! This is one of our brightest and most colourful spaces and it makes us so happy when we are cooking in here :) Our flat came with a galley kitchen, which the front door opens up right into, so this is the view you see when you first enter our home. We knew we wanted to have an open-concept kitchen to make our space feel bigger and brighter, so we hacked down the wall connecting the kitchen to the dining space. This is also great for when we host family & friends, because we can still feel part of the dining space even when we are prepping food. We love our sunny yellow backsplash tiles and how it is so cheerful and fun! We went with a glossy finish tile for easier cleaning, especially behind the hob when cooking with oil. We created a kitchen peninsula for extra worktop space as D loves to bake and E enjoys cooking! We also extended the counter to match the structural beam above, to also create space for seating to make a bar counter zone. We often have most of our meals here when it is just us two as the clean-up is also easier! Another perk of having this counter top space is that it acts as a buffet style table when we host larger numbers of guests. Due to the narrow space of our galley kitchen, we also opted for a 2-door fridge to minimize the turning radius when multiple people are in the kitchen at the same time. As for our hood, we got a thicker "slim" hood from Fujioh, but read good reviews on it and definitely wanted to get a stronger one since our kitchen is open. We chose a stainless steel hob for easier cleaning, as we saw that glass leaves obvious many fingerprint marks when touched, and went with the traditional gas burner stove as we were both familiar with that from our family homes. We decided to invest in getting a blum condiments drawer as this is a frequently opened and used drawer. Only wish we had asked for a slightly wider one so 2 bottles could fit side-by-side. For our sink area, we chose a slightly smaller sink, also due to the fridge and hob taking up extra space on this side of the kitchen. However, we also planned to get a dishwasher, so we knew we didn't need a huge sink for washing. We are team side dishrack! We didn't like the idea of drying our dishes above us and then having water drip down our arms.... Our special project for the kitchen... Our stained glass door is finally up! D worked on the glass panels with her grandparents over 6 months. They weren't ready when we took photos for our house tour, so we are so happy that we can finally show them now! These doors add so much colour, personality and vibrancy to the whole kitchen! We love how the sunlight shines in to show the glass colours in their full glory, and besides being a feature piece for the kitchen, it also act as a cover for our laundry on the other side. Next to our door is our oven, easy access at waist height for easy baking and cooking, and we went with a open space above it to place the microwave. We went with glass doors for this side of the top cabinets to display our more fun cups and fancy glasses! We use this zone for prepping and baking, so it holds most of the utilities we need for everyday, like our knives, chopping boards, coffee machine, and of course D’s must have item, her orange Kitchenaid mixer! We love how all the colours are tying in together, creating a nice balance from every angle! That's all from us for now, we have more to share on our cooking and kitchen utilities in our service yard post soon :)
