Some of the main areas and their uses in our kitchen. As its only the two of us living in the house, our countertops are not overloaded. We only keep the appliances we use frequently on our countertop, and the rest are kept in the drawers.
All our carpentry depth is 60cm, except the dry pantry which has a 50cm depth! This is so the dry pantry area doesn’t look too bulky.
Some IDs were initially hesitant to suggest this layout, possibly because of the lack of space in between the island and the fridge for the kitchen entry. Many also suggested placing the fridge at the right, where our appliances currently are at, but that would mean losing on our counter space!
1m might seem a little tight for the kitchen entry, but so far we find that this amount of space is sufficient. Both of us don’t typically walk in at the same time, and even when one opens the fridge door, we just gotta wait a little for that moment to pass!
We opted for a 60cm sink as we don’t have a dishwasher, and the main food prep area is about 45cm! This is usually enough for us. If space is lacking, we just move to the island behind (if both of us are preparing things together) ☺️
As our hood is a chimney but is covered up, we also went with our ID’s suggestion on the ventilation cover for the hood. May not look the most aesthetic but serves its function!
The 40cm space to the right of the stove is where we usually put the airfryer when it’s in use for easier access. There’s still quite a lot of space on the appliances side beside our rice cooker, which we usually use to put plastic bags we get from grocery shopping.
Our island space is 75cm in length, just about enough for us! We got this complimentary dish rack when we bought our sink, which we usually use to dry our utensils.
