Other than blocking the relentless sunlight in SG, having curtains/blinds definitely help enhance the mood in the house. Mine was from Drapes Studio, which I highly recommend due to their professionalism and competitive pricing!! 
Love the streaks of lights shining through the venetian blinds. Despite the aesthetics, do note that venetian blinds are more tedious to tidy and maintain! 
Blackout blinds are essential when you are a light sleeper and they are definitely more straightforward in terms of maintenance.
