We spent about $10k on living room carpentry, 1/3 of it on feature wall / console. Chose carpentry over loose furniture so that everything looks synchronised, since we already decided on a customised entryway and settee along the whole living room. Details to consider: * TV size & whether you will choose a larger TV in future * Laminate width & material * Colour between laminate joint * Alignment with opposite wall * What type of TV mount? Fixed? Double arm? (This affects position of opening for cable) * Cable opening (hole on wall only? Hole on console?) * What other appliances will be here? * Karaoke * PlayStation * Soundbar * Etc * Glass to allow infrared rays from remote control to pass through? Or open vents but more consistent look? * What will be stored here?

Started out using the TV stand provided by LG. But it was troublesome to clean around the TV stand, and the narrow space behind the stand was hard to reach, leaving lots of unreachable dust. After some thought, we decided to get a double arm TV bracket. Maintenance is key for us, and it has been a breeze since we switched to mounted TV, which reinforces our values of maintenance is key! No longer need to shift the TV stand around while cleaning console. No more dusty narrow and awkward angles. It’s awesome. Our double arm TV bracket can be extended to about 50cm, tilt up/down, swivel left/right aka face the dining area 😁✌🏻.

Cable management system is in-built. It is essentially a piece of plastic covering that hides cables at strategic locations on the bracket. Other than aesthetics, it also made the area easier to clean. Dusty cables are a nightmare to clean, while being ugly. So this is a perfect solution.

Neatly tucked in. No need for special tools to remove the covering. As shown in previous picture, the cables remain relatively dust free after a year.

One thing to keep in mind — it’s best to decide on your TV bracket model before your feature wall carpentry is finalized. Some brackets may need a cut-out (above or below), and the panel needs to be thick enough to support the install. It’s the small details that make big differences later!” I’ve shared more about our setup and short write up of TV brackets over on my Instagram if you’re curious!
