Here’s a closer look at how we’ve planned each space — from carving out a little foyer to making sure the kitchen flow actually makes sense 🫣
Scroll through for the thought process behind our layout and hopefully it gives you an idea to reimagine the possibilities for each corner (and maybe a sneak peek into our future home chaos too) ✨
Here’s an overall view of the transformation from our original layout. The biggest game-changer? We tore down Bedroom 3 to open up and extend our living and dining areas. This move was all about creating a warm, inviting communal space—perfect for slow mornings, lively dinner parties, and quality time with friends and family.
Scroll on as we take you through the thoughtful details behind each space, and share the whys, hows, and heart behind every decision.
You could say we created a foyer out of thin air. The original layout featured a niche right beside the bomb shelter—framed by structural walls, so no hacking allowed. As someone who values a bit of privacy (especially when the main door swings open), we carved out a welcoming entryway instead.
Now, this little corner does it all: a comfy settee for slipping on shoes, a mirror for those last-minute fit checks, and a sleek cabinet that tucks away life’s daily clutter. It’s proof that even the most overlooked spaces can be transformed with intention and a touch of creativity.
Next up: our expanded living and dining area—a true luxury in today’s BTO. The extra space has been a game-changer, giving us room for everything from hearty dinner gatherings to cosy movie nights. It’s also gifted us more nooks to lounge in as we happily lean into our homebody era.
Just behind the cabinetry sits our dry pantry, which doubles as a casual bar counter—perfect for mixing up a few sips when the mood strikes. It was originally meant to house a water dispenser, but we pivot edges. Bonus points: we even tucked in a few power points, so we can plug in the HomePod and let the music set the vibe.
Now, onto the bedrooms.
Bedroom 2 is kept intentionally flexible, furnished with loose pieces so the space can evolve with our needs. For now, it’s our dedicated WFH zone—a quiet little corner for deep work days. It also serves as a display spot for some of our favourite collectibles that didn’t quite make the cut for the main aesthetic (we’re calling it our secret stash!).
As for the Master Bedroom, we opted for a subtle separation between the sleeping area and wardrobe space. With our different work hours, this layout allows one of us to catch uninterrupted Zs while the other gets ready. It’s also given us a mini walk-in wardrobe—not huge, but just enough to keep things streamlined and clutter-free. Plus, it offers direct access to the master bathroom for… well, all kinds of business.
And finally, the kitchen.
With a fairly boxy layout, the planning process was pretty straightforward. We removed the bi-fold doors and windows to open up the space, creating a more seamless flow. The custom carpentry does a lot of the heavy lifting here—from concealing bulky pipes to a handy pull-out unit that makes grabbing snacks a breeze.
Alright, this wraps up our layout tour! We can’t wait to share the actual photos once everything comes together—and of course, more snippets of practical (but still cute!) ways we’re making this house a home.
