Now that we have gone through reno for our first home, we have reflected on what we would look out for if we were to choose an ID for our next reno in x years later 😂
1. Gives broad reno timeline
We feel that this is the basic of proj management. Having a timeline helps both parties to ensure that the reno stays on track.
We didn’t put pressure on our ID and let him run things by himself as we were clueless of what to expect. As first timers going through the reno process, we wouldn’t know what is the sequence of the various works. A broad timeline would have helped us in understanding the different works going on and ensure that the reno was on track.
Because we didn’t put pressure on our ID, the reno took about 5 months to complete and we had to rush him when it was nearing our move-in date. In between, there was almost 2 months without much progress.
2. Gives timely updates
Homeowners would be very keen to know about what has completed. We would appreciate if our ID had given us timely updates. Not expecting a daily update, but at least a weekly update especially at the start where things were moving quickly.
We had very rare updates by our ID. Most of the time, we went down to see for ourselves in order to know what has been done.
We wouldn’t go back to our ID for our next reno. But we will consider going for other IDs in the same firm because the workmanship of the workers are good!
