When it came to renovating a resale flat, one of our non-negotiables was to renovate the bathrooms completely. Just the thought of reusing any aspect of a space that has been heavily used by the previous owner irks me and didn’t sound sanitary at all 😅
In terms of design, we wanted both the guest and MBR bathrooms to look different – the former as an extension of our space, and the latter as a mini sanctuary for us to unwind after a long day.
This is the common bathroom.
The shower area was intentionally left more open to allow us to wash things. We didn’t see ourselves showering here often, so water splashing out of the shower area wasn’t a big concern – and true enough, we’ve showered here less than five times total after close to 2 years.
One of our favourite touches was to introduce curves – in the form of the mirror and glass panel at the shower area – to soften the overall look of the space.
For our MBR bathroom, we were open to having a bit of a contrast from the lighter palettes of our home. For this, we took inspiration from the outdoor showers in Bali resorts.
An important tip that we have when it comes to picking a suitable toilet bowl is to actually spend time sitting on it in the showroom. After all, you’re gonna wanna make sure that you’re comfortable when it comes to doing a number two (as awkward as you feel sitting on it in the showroom).
We know, we know. Full glass panels are a pain to maintain. But hear me out – what if you just don’t bother maintaining it so often? 😂
I’ve had glass panels for the previous homes that I’ve stayed in, so I guess I’ve grown immune to the watermarks.
