Even though it was move-in condition, there were some features that we didn’t fancy: the ceiling cornices and the tile skirting. There was also a large altar cupboard that we hacked along with the prior features.
We preferred a smooth canvas so we went with a full false ceiling and plastered the walls for a smooth canvas. We also built a tv wall to conceal the niche and wirings.
Having three kids means knowing we have to conceal our chaos so a built in at our entryway was a non-negotiable. We love how all of our belongings including the kids’ bags (all 100 of them iykyk) have a proper place in the house and are easily within reach.
We moved our dining area so that we would have a bigger space in the centre. We also had the niche here covered because we preferred clean lines. The air conditioning unit here was our addition so it was quite a big decision then to discuss where the aircon trunking would run through. In the end, we were happy we stuck to our decision to get a stronger aircon unit as it efficiently cools the entire area.
We decided to save time by keeping the existing bottom carpentry since it was done up about 5 years ago. We were also glad they had a concrete base near the sink so we gladly inherited it.
Another plus point is that it came with a comfortable sized service yard, which can cater for our family’s laundry needs and also a corner for our dry pantry items.
We also kept the light grey kitchen tiles in the rest of the kitchen, but overlaid with glass backing for a seamless look.
