Hi everyone! In this post, we’ll share about all the bathroom reno decisions we made that were motivated by wanting to make cleaning as low maintenance as possible 🧹
Starting off with one of our favourite decisions is having a half-wall, half-fluted glass partition to separate the wet & dry areas in our bathrooms. Here’s why we would do this again:
1) Half-wall means we got to carve out a niche & ledge to place our shower essentials.
2) Half-glass means we have less surface area for water marks to worry about, especially since the bottom of the shower screen usually requires more effort to maintain.
3) Despite its higher price point, opting for fluted glass turned out to be the best decision. In relation to the 2nd point, we don’t have to worry about water marks making our shower screen look dirty after all because the fluted details basically mask the spots, reducing the stress to have to maintain the glass regularly. We usually wash it down after each shower to drain away the soap scums and do a simple squeegee afterwards. Apart from this, we don’t do anything special to clean the glass and they always look good as new 🤭
P.S. We also intentionally had the fluted side facing the dry side of the bathroom, such that we can easily squeegee the wet side because it’s a smooth surface! :)
Large Format Tiles:
1) Less grout lines to maintain. Makes the bathroom appear larger too!
Smooth Wall Tiles:
1) Dirt & grime can be easily scrubbed and washed off instead of being trapped in textured grooves. However, we did opt for rougher floor tiles to make our bathroom more slip-resistant :)
Aligning Wall & Floor Tiles Strategically:
1) Apart from aesthetics, this also helps to reduce the overall number of grout lines that need to be maintained!
P.S. We’re ever-grateful for our ID who took the time to lay out the tiles on the floor to seek our preference on the configuration before getting the tilers to lay them proper.
Built-in Mirror Cabinet + Vanity Cabinet:
1) Conceals majority of our bathroom essentials, leaving only the ones that require drying (e.g. tooth brushes, dental retainers) on the countertop. This reduces dust exposure to the items and allows us to clean our countertops easily with less items to move around.
2) We extended the mirror cabinet all the way to the top so that we don’t have to dust the top of the cabinet too!
P.S. If we could do it again, we may even consider leaving the bottom shelf of the mirror cabinet baseless, such that we can hang the items that require drying hidden inside the cabinet while still allowing them to dry from the bottom 🤭
Handheld Shower:
1) We have both a rain shower and a handheld shower. The latter is essential in making bathroom-cleaning effective & efficient. We use it to wash down soap scums on the walls, shower screen and floors after every shower too!
Swapping Waffle Box Up Panel to Smooth Acrylic Panel:
1) Dust gets trapped easily in the default HDB waffle box up panels. Swapping them to smooth acrylic ones not only makes cleaning easier but we’re able to add in LED ambient lighting too!
And that’s all for this post! If you’ve read till here, we hope these pointers have been useful for you ✨
