We are planning to buy our tiles from China directly and it's very important for us to know exactly what to look out for. After doing tons of research, I've compiled the top 5 tips you need to know when you pick a wood-like tiles.
There's a difference between a wood-like ceramic tiles and an actual wood tiles. Wood-like ceramic tiles are made using ceramic but looks like wood tiles. Wood tiles are made of natural wood and have all the characteristics of a wood material.
Hence, it's very important to pick a wood-like tile that looks like an actual wood tile else it's very obvious it's not wood.
In particular, a lot of owners like to cover the grout lines but this would make your wood-like tiles less wood like. Actual wood tiles will have grout lines and by showing it, you actually make the wood tiles more obvious!
Beside having grout lines, it's best to pick a grout color that is slightly darker shade than your wood tiles. By picking a darker colour, it accentuates the wood-like tiles as well!
The 3rd tip is to pick tiles with a straight edge. Having curve edge sounds good on paper but actually make your grout lines look bigger and is harder to tile.
Real wood have variations. Not every wood plank is the same. Hence, it's also important to ensure you have variation in your tiling and pick a tile that has at least 6 faces of variations. This ensures when you tile you don't repeat the pattern.
Lastly, consider using the 369 tiling pattern for wood-like tiles. This straight-forward and easy tiling saves a lot of wastage and is cheaper to tile as well.
We will be using 369 pattern for our bedrooms and herringbone pattern for our LDK!
