Hello everyone! This post continues from our previous one, so make sure to check it out first! There are a lot of behind-the-scenes thought that went into each reno decision and we actually have plenty more stuffs to share. Follow our socials to stay updated on our home journey!

For our master bedroom, we have an L-shaped cabinet that goes from floor to ceiling, connected to a full-length mirror with a curved-edge vanity desk. This is my go-to spot for drying my hair and skin care routine every day, and I love how everything stays perfectly tucked away, my hair dryer, straightener and all the taller hair and skincare items are neatly hidden behind the mirror. There is also a drawer for smaller items, which keeps everything organized and clutter-free.
A small learning point we shared in a previous post: we had originally wanted wooden handles for our bedroom doors. They looked beautiful online, and since all our other carpentry had recessed handles, we wanted to try something different, thinking that it would look as pretty as the VR mock up. In reality, the handles looked bulky and would hit the surface of another door.
Luckily, our ID and carpenter were so kind to help rectify this, even carrying all four doors again to refabricate them. Really sorry to them for the extra work!!! After this experience, we strongly feel that for a clean, timeless finish, recessed handles are the way to go unless you are going for a specific look or theme.
Just look at our VR vs real life!
Another design choice we initially considered was having doors that open in the middle of the cabinet. Our interior designer advised that this would significantly reduce storage space, and we wanted to maximize storage. The trade-off is that reaching items at the deeper ends takes a bit more effort, but that’s not a problem for us, since I don’t mind diving into my clothes stash! HAHAHA
Also, we originally considered was a standing vanity near the bathroom door (see reference picture sourced from Taobao), instead of doing a full-length sit-down vanity corner. I’m so glad we went with the sit-down vanity corner as lazy bum me loves being able to sit down drying my hair while scrolling my HP! HAHAHA
The wall is limewashed to create a cozy effect. At the other side of the bed, we have a boba light that we use every night. It is enough to softly illuminate the room if we want to scroll on our phones before sleeping. The colour and dimness of the boba light can also be adjusted to create different moods. We also have a small bedside table with sockets for convenience. I have been using it to charge my power bank and HP every day.
Initially, we had planned to install LED lights behind the bed as per our first VR rendering, but after some thought, we decided to save costs. We are actually glad we did! The LED lights from the mirror are more than sufficient, and having extra LEDs behind the bed would have been overkill. We like to keep lighting soft to create a sleepy ambiance and we even direct the light toward our feet for a cozy effect.
Our best-ever investment? The two-way switch by the bed. We can switch off the lights without walking over to the entrance, it is like the hotel-style convenience in your home! We did not get any smart switches as this is good enough for our lifestyle.
The story behind our design continues in the next post!
