Planning our aircon location and piping routes as we didn't want unsightly trunking to run all over the house, but we also didn't want to spend too much extra $$$ on boxing up. So we went with a hybrid solution! General pros and cons for each solution:
Open trunking
✅ No additional costs other then aircon installation fees
✅ Easier maintenance. If there are issues in future like leaks, it's easier to remove the trunking and do the repair works
❌ Looks awful
Box up
✅ Neat and aesthetic, you won't even notice the aircon pipes are there
❌ Quite a bit of additional costs
❌ If there are leakages, the box will be removed and there goes the cost of boxing up
24K BTU for our living space since we hacked down one bedroom and kitchen wall. This looks very neat thanks for the false wall that is behind that can be used to conceal the pipes!
We opted for box up solution in the bedroom as it keeps it neat and clean for a room that is meant for rest.
For the study, we didn't mind having the open trunking since it is not directly visible as you enter through the doorway. The actual piping ends somewhere midway at the door, before turning out to the corridor. But we requested additional empty trunking to flush it all the way to the left.
