Hello it’s us again! 👋 Just wanted to do a quick post on this wall that initially felt like a limitation during our planning stage.
Right along the entryway and kitchen, we had structural this wall that we couldn’t remove or hack down. It sat right between two main zones, awkwardly, prominent, yet not quite usable… at first.
But as we sat with it longer, we realised if we couldn’t make it disappear, why not make it work for us? So here goes nothing for us!
We extended our kitchen countertop beyond the structural wall, turning what could’ve felt like a constraint into a feature. This small space saw a big investment, all to make the design feel deliberate and considered. The main design here was fluted base and curved countertop, which is now our breakfast spot, groceries drop off point and not forgetting extra prep space!
A curved countertop ✨ giving ✨ serving ✨
By moving away from the standard rectangular 3-sided seating layout, the open space allows for fluidity and limitless arrangements.
Acting as a bridge between our kitchen and living area, the extended countertop naturally doubles up as a food serving spot too.
On the right side of the structural wall, we hacked down the long stretch of plain wall to create a gallery view. This new opening creates visual depth and allows light to enter our entryway naturally! The gallery view is also where our induction stove sits, and on the other side is where our entryway is, a display nook for some of our collections 🤭
After!
We hope we inspired those going through Reno to be free with your ideas! For those who have renovated, were there any awkward walls/spots that you creatively designed around?
