Welcome to our 116sqm 5-room HDB BTO at Woodleigh Hillside! After consulting over 15 interior designers, we discovered that none of their proposed designs were to our liking. In fact, one firm even challenged us, suggesting we hire a contractor instead if we had a specific design in mind. Undeterred, we embraced the challenge! Opting to forgo an interior designer, we took full control and passionately crafted our dream home ourselves. Let’s begin the tour of our $72k newly renovated abode!

In order to create a welcoming and visually striking entrance, we used the combination of warm wood tones with Paranakan tiles at our foyer. We incorporated fluted panels to conceal our bomb shelter to maintain both functionality and aesthetics. The arch and niche for footwear storage add a touch of elegance and organization to our foyer while the LED strips contribute to a cozy ambiance.

We love how the fluted panels not only conceal our carpentry for storage but also enhance the aesthetic by providing a niche for displaying our photos and reed diffuser. It's great when functionality meets aesthetics so seamlessly!

Moving on to our living room, we have our statement piece- Castlery’s Marlow Performance L-shape sectional sofa. Its curved edges add a touch of softness and elegance to our home's decor.

You can clearly see our love for arch and curves from this wide angle shot! This complements well with our Vanilla Oak herringbone vinyl flooring from ArcFloor.

We concealed a beam with a partition wall which allows us to integrate arc-shaped shelves. Sitting on these shelves are beautiful pieces from Taobao and Hooga. We positioned the Ronde Tracklights from Shiok Lighting in a way which highlight the arches and our 75 inch Samsung Frame TV. Doesn’t the “Great Wave off Kanagawa” resemble a perfect painting on our lime-washed wall?

A perfect ensemble of Castlery’s beautiful pieces in the heart of our home! Featuring their Marlow Performace Boucle L shape Sectional Sofa, Amber Boucle Swivel Chair and Lorenzo Wool Area Rug. We fell in love with the Marlow series as this sofa comes in four sections, allowing us flexibility in customising its configuration. Its spill-resistant feature adds practicality to its charm.

We opted for wooden-like tiles for our balcony over traditional wooden decking as it offers durability and resistance to outdoor wear and tear while providing the aesthetic appeal of wood.

This is how big our sofa is! It has accommodated 11 pax, perfect when we host large gatherings!

Sitting nicely at a corner of our living room is our customised 4ft fish tank. We chose a cherry blossom backdrop as it brings back memories of our recent trip to Japan where we chased hanami from Tokyo to Kyoto. It is a perfect corner of tranquility and nostalgia as we enjoy the company of our goldfish and reminisce the rain of sakura along the river banks of Philosopher’s Path 🌸🌸 Much therapeutic when we see this everyday!

Another statement piece we love will be this dining table from Can Can Furnishings. We love how the warm wood tones of its fluted legs complement our Vanilla Oak vinyl flooring. This curates a nice cosy corner where we get to enjoy the latest netflix from our 75 inch tv while munching on our meals. Albeit not a good habit! 🤣 Having our fish tank right beside also adds another charming element to our dining experience. It brings joy and a sense of companionship as they will always swim towards us whenever we sat down, probably anticipating to be fed too! 😄

This is our dining space, featuring our 1.8m Sloane Marble Dining Table from Castlery. It was Castlery’s 10th Anniversary limited edition piece where only 12 pieces were released and we were lucky to get our hands on the last two! Complementing this table is a customised bench we got from Taobao. We were happy to find a fabric that nicely matches our boucle chairs from Castlery. The addition of Wallhub’s metallic textured paint on our dining wall enhances the cozy ambiance of our dining area. This creates a sophisticated backdrop for our dining experiences where we gather and enjoy our meals with our loved ones.

Hanging above our dining table is this pair of rose pendant lights. These caught our eyes when we visited Sol Luminare’s showroom. They were displaying these pendant lights in 3 sizes at a price of $1.5k to $4k ranging from the smallest to biggest one. Looking to narrow down our costs, we sourced Taobao and were happy to find similar pieces at ~$100-$200! Even the product webpage was exact to Sol Luminaire’s listing. It is impressive how Taobao offered such uncanny resemblances at less than a fraction of the cost, making it a practical choice without compromising on style.

Here’s our kitchen! We couldn’t resist incorporating an arch in the kitchen too 😆 The arch shelves and curved island helps to soften the overall look of our kitchen. We chose an open concept so our kitchen appears more spacious. We also opted for herringbone vinyl to have a continuity throughout our home and not restrict our kitchen to a defined space. Our venetian blinds not only provide privacy, but also contribute to a warm and cosy ambience.

The blend of light wood and white tones creates tranquility, complemented by the sophistication of Bertazzoni’s rose gold heritage oven. The in-built washer and dryer are a practical addition, especially without a service yard. We chose a herringbone marble backsplash to create a beautiful flow and continuity with our herringbone vinyl flooring.

Moving on to our hallway, we have a lovely balance of rustic charm and modern elegance. Our hallway is illuminated with Shiok Lighting’s astro ceiling lamp, complementing the custom barn doors for our bedrooms beautifully. Fluted glass swing doors for our common toilet add on a touch of sophistication to the farmhouse vibes.

Zooming in on the entrance to our common toilet! The fluted glass gives a nice aesthetic touch with its texture and diffused light effects.
  • A Self-designed Cosy Abode at Woodleigh Hillside
We wanted a resort style vibe for our common toilet. Wooden tiles for the shower area brings a warm and natural feel while textured wall tiles with a subtle shiny surface add a touch of elegance and depth. We customised our basin cabinet with Modeste to optimise the space in our toilet. We also installed a ventilation fan to maintain good air circulation, prevent mould growth and keep odours at bay.

We can’t get enough of arcs! So here’s one for our shower screen too 😆

As reflected by the red arrows in our floor plan, we hacked away the existing wall in our master bedroom and rebuilt another wall (indicated by yellow lines) in bedroom 2. This gives us more room for wardrobes in our master bedroom without compromising on space. Afterall, we spend more time in our master bedroom over the latter!

Here it is! Our concealed bathroom accessed via our walk-in closet.

We decided to go classic for a luxurious bathroom statement and opted for marble paired with gold accents to create a sanctuary for us to unwind and relax.
  • A Self-designed Cosy Abode at Woodleigh Hillside
We chose bigger wall tiles to create an illusion of a bigger space in our bathroom sanctuary. We found a perfect match for these marble wall tiles with the gold chevron herringbone floor tiles. And not forgetting another arc shower screen to complement the curves of our golden rainshower 🚿💛

A dreamy bathroom retreat! Ain’t this a perfect place to unwind?
  • A Self-designed Cosy Abode at Woodleigh Hillside
Our statement piece here will be Woosa’s adjustable bed which comes with a massaging feature and USB charging ports at each side of the bed. The fluted headboard nicely matches Vwalla’s fluted panels and Castlery’s Harper side table, creating a cohesive and stylish look.
  • A Self-designed Cosy Abode at Woodleigh Hillside
In order to fully maximise our wardrobe space, we incorporated Higold’s mechanism where we can easily access the clothes at the top wardrobe by pulling down the lever. This adds a convenient and functional element to our storage setup.
  • A Self-designed Cosy Abode at Woodleigh Hillside
Walking into the wardrobe to our dressing area! Castlery’s boucle stool stands at a perfect height for our comfort. Hidden behind our mirror is yet another compartment for more storage! There is also a customised pull-out drawer from Higold to store all our jewelleries and charms.

Moving on to bedroom 2, this is where we work out with a lovely park view. It is also where we house our roborock vacuum cleaner. Our motorized Venetian blinds provide shade and privacy effortlessly, without the hassle of manually drawing them.
