In this post, we will be sharing some tips on how we decorate our home with ways that let our personal touch shine through. We have been taking our time to furnish our home the past ~1 year, so this is definitely still a work-in-progress for us! 🙌🏻 Let’s start with our bomb shelter door that has been evolving as our lives in this home unfold. We love how its magnetic surface has given us an additional opportunity to style our home! Apart from the commonly collected travel magnets & postcrds, we have added on items with quotes/images that resonate with us or simply those that spark joy in us: “my happy place” postcard from good maison a quirky ”吃蛇” angpow that we received during CNY this year “you are loved by the universe” card from Tea Buds “choose to practise gratitude” is a cut-out of an old calendar cover page minimalistic “ABUNDANCE” angpow — manifests an abundance in all that we do, have and love a (self-embroidered) dance shoe (that was a handover gift) because dance plays a big part in our lives — I’ve always wanted to use dance shoes as a home decor and I’m so happy I finally got to do it! As our lives continue to unfold here, we look forward to the ever-growing memories that this door will hold ❤️ Heading on to our entryway, which is also the very first decor spot we carved out for our home. Starting from the left, we turned the fluted panel sample pieces given by our ID into decor pieces, which is still one of our favourite decor choices till date! For the rest of the pieces, they are mainly sentimental items that we have received as gifts or mementos from our travels. An honourable mention is the little wooden house on the far right. We got it from Japan to symbolise the home in the movie “UP”. We used mini baby’s breaths to symbolise the balloons, also another tiny detail that we love! This has a special place in our hearts because our home account handle is inspired by the movie, hence “Paradise Falls” 🎈 - #entryway

Photos are the perfect way to add a personal touch to your homes. Apart from the ones in the previous photos, we also have them in our bedroom, alongside the ceramics (read: shared experience) that we’ve made together :) - #Bedroomstyling

When we first discovered these customised wall decal characters, we immediately knew it would be an excellent way to give our home a personal touch. We customised 3 sets from Ohfridayishere, namely “出入平安”, ”饮水思源” and “一期一会”, which has a unique meaning behind them respectively. ”出入平安” (To be safe & sound wherever you go) If there’s anything we can wish for anyone, it would be for them to be safe (& healthy) wherever they go. And that was how we decided to add this decal here, symbolic of our heartfelt wish to keep everyone at home and the people we share this save haven with, safe & healthy, as they step into and out of this abode. Because no matter what happens, it’s most important to us that we have one another ❤️ “饮水思源” (Be grateful for all your blessings; Directly translated to “when drinking water, think of its source”) Customised as a reminder to continuously cultivate gratitude in our lives. Amidst all the chaos and curveballs that life throws at us, we hope to never forget to be grateful for all that we have. Fun fact: “饮水思源” was a value strongly imparted by the Mrs’ Alma mater — Apart from the compulsory daily gratitude journal sessions, the school even had audio recordings of short gratitude stories played whenever we used the water coolers in school 🫢 Soooo placing this custom text next to our water dispenser not only reminds us to literally be grateful for our water source and life blessings but also brings back some fond memories! 🥰 “一期一会” (いちごいちえ, ichi-go ichi-e) is a Japanese idiom that translates to “one time, one meeting,” or more poetically, “a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.” It serves as a gentle reminder to embrace the present, knowing that each moment is unique and can never be experienced the same way again. ————————————————————- We wanted it to be added to this spot of the house, where we get to enjoy both the sunset view & golden hour rays ☀️ The idiom perfectly captures the ever-changing evening glow, where no two sunsets are the same, reminding us to cherish each one we get to witness 🧡 And of course, we love how this idiom applies to everything in life too! The next category of decor items include things that you can make/fix/create together. Apart from a decor piece, it is also the perfect way to build a new shared memory! First up, we have Legos 🙌🏻 We are honestly very impressed with how Lego has come up with many products that look beautiful as home decor — go check out the wide variety of selection available! Another decor piece that you can make together is a painting. Fret not if you are not confident of creating your own artwork from scratch, you can turn to canvas painting that are already printed & numbered with the respective colours! This mini boy & girl painting is exactly this :) Another decor idea is none other than puzzles! As you can see, it’s still a work-in-progress for us and while we can’t wait to complete the project, it has also been a really nice bonding activity as we savour the process :) Featured here is an empty essential oil bottle repurposed as a vase for dried flowers. The essential oil was gifted to us by our cousin as a housewarming gift. This idea came about as we wanted to retain the gift in our home after we finished the essential oil. In the spirit of making the most out of using less, repurposing and upcycling are at the heart of our home, down to our home decor. We hope this inspires you to look at the things you have in a new light to see if you can give them a new life ✨ The list of home decor items can go on and on, but we hope that this post has inspired you with ideas you can adopt to add a personal touch to your home 🏡 In this day and age where home styling content is proliferating on social media, it is easy to feel that your home isn’t “good enough” and that could spur you into rushing to decorate your home. We’ve been there and it’s a constant effort to pull ourselves out of that inferiority zone. Looking back, we’re very thankful that we took all the time we needed to find/create the pieces of decor that we feel deserve a place in our home — whenever we admire them, the story behind them speaks to us quietly. It is truly a warm feeling that makes this home, our home. We look forward to savouring the journey as it continues to unfold ❤️
