When francis first popped the question of us living with a hole in our kitchen, it did not sit well with me. I was so excited to show our place to family and friends, and having it unfinished just felt like something was missing.
Nevertheless, francis managed to scam me by saying that we would only live with the hole for “a few weeks, max one month”. It ended up being five whole months (don’t worry, no husbands, wives or marriages were harmed in the process).
Living with a literal hole in our kitchen meant:
- We couldn’t fully close up the kitchen when cooking (and our hood had issues… refer to our earlier posts 🙃)
- Cold air would escape into the kitchen whenever we turned on the aircon
We reached out to 12 carpenters, and only two were willing to take on the job! The search was kinda daunting, we kept getting rejected because the scope of our project was too small. I was really afraid that the hole will be there forever😭
Featuring my very primary school level drawing to the carpenter hahaha
Even though ours was a tiny project, our carpenter actually created proper 3D renders for us, so I thought that was the norm.
Recently, a friend told me the carpentry drawings for her ENTIRE house was hand drawn by her ID. I was really shocked!!
I also appreciated that our carpenter sent us photo updates! It makes me feel very involved in the process, although my only contribution is eye power hahaha
And here is the final product of our kitchen hole being wholesome LOL.
Would I do it again?
A resounding yes. What we have now fits our lifestyle perfectly, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Though there were inconveniences, they were nothing compared to the feeling of living in a space you don’t love. Husband is definitely right on this one hehe
