The original layout had a wall dividing the kitchen and dining area, making both spaces small and odd-shaped. So we hacked the wall and shifted the fridge and part of the kitchen into the dining area. This worked out perfectly for hosting big parties as the counter space and shelves double as a drinks station. It also gives our young children have access to the dry pantry area to get snacks and water.
