DINKWAD life in our cozy 4-room BTO
6-month update: Our Reno Regrets 😵
5690
In the blink of an eye, we’ve been living in our own space for 6 months!! 🥹 Can’t believe how time flies. Glad to say we are still very much enjoying our newly renovated space, but if I were to nitpick, here are some of the reno regrets we have so far. Regret 1: Cover for pull-down drying rack I feel like I hear about this reno regret all the time but somehow we also succumbed to it 😅 Our ID naturally designed our kitchen cabinets with a BLUM cover for our above the sink drying rack, which aesthetically looks good when the cover is closed. BUT practically, especially if you cook often like us, it’s more likely that the cover will permanently stay open to let the dishes dry 🥹 So now we always have the cover hovering over our heads instead. We may be dismantling the cover by ourselves in the near future hahahaha. Regret 2: Kitchen faucet handle pointing to the side instead of towards the sink This is another design choice we didn’t give much thought to — when our ID suggested the default of placing the handle to the side we just went with it. On one hand it doesn’t block the sink space at all, but on the other hand, every time we turn on or off the tap with wet hands, the water now drips to the side of the sink instead of into the sink, so we had to place a diatomate mat by the side of the sink to absorb all the dripping water. Regret 3: Single set of blinds for master bedroom Again for the aesthetics and to let less light in during the day, we asked our curtains contractor to custom-make our master blinds as a single set rather than splitting it into two sets of blinds. Our initial thought was that having one full set is easier because we would only need to use one mechanism to raise or lower, or open and close the blinds. But after using it for 6 months, we realise that the blinds are super heavy because the master windows are bigger than the other rooms, so sometimes the mechanism isn’t able to fully support the blinds and they’ll end up being slanted. It’s also quite difficult to pull the blinds up and we need to use much more force to do so. Of course it’s difficult to have 0 reno regrets but we’re glad that so far, our regrets have been generally minor! Do plan your own reno properly and remember to think about these small little lifestyle habits that can affect your reno decisions
