Things We Didn’t Know Until We Had Our Own BTO 🏠✨ Owning a BTO has been a learning curve, and we’ve picked up some invaluable tips along the way. Here are a few things we wish we knew earlier: 1. Buy Items via Group Buy: If you have specific items in mind, always check out Group Buys! We didn’t realize each BTO has its own chat with numerous group buy opportunities. From @steigensingapore , @luxusdigital Digital locks to Wi-Fi with @singtel , and even acrylic panel installation, we scored some amazing deals! We only wish we hadn’t missed out on the @ruhenssg water dispenser Group Buy. 2. Bulk Purchase of Big Home Items: Before our BTO, we had no idea we could get discounts on bulk purchases. Thanks to a relative’s tip, we compared pricing and deals with multiple electronics stores and found the best deals at @harveynormansg . We locked down essentials like our fridge, TV, speakers, aircon, hood, stove, and mattress with a bed frame. For bathroom and kitchen essentials, @hoekeehardwaresg gave us the best deal on toilet bowls, sinks, and taps! 3. Taobao or Shopee for Small Items: For smaller items, especially if you’re on a tight budget as a young couple, @taobao.singapore and @shopee_sg are lifesavers. You can save a fair bit on essentials without breaking the bank. We got all our lightings and even the bathroom cabinet set from @taobao.official 4. Plan Your Renovation Timeline: Renovation can be a lengthy process, so plan your timeline carefully. We found it helpful to start early, get quotes from multiple contractors, and have a clear idea of what we wanted before the keys were in our hands. This helped us avoid delays and unexpected costs. 5. Unexpected Mini Expenses: There are many mini expenses we didn’t know about until we had our own home. We didn’t realize we needed to pay conservancy fees to HDB. We also underestimated our utility bills, thinking they wouldn’t be more than $100, which turned out to be not true at all.
