1️⃣ Rugs
It would add so much cosiness, but the thought of dust and daily vacuuming makes us hesitate. (picture visualization all thanks to AI)
✅ Pros
• Cozy, warms up space
• Aesthetic ++ (less “empty BTO” feel)
• Helps define living area
❌ Cons
• Traps dust, dirt, allergens
• Need vacuum ~2–3x/week
• Humidity → possible mould/smell
• Harder cleaning (need to move sofa, deep cleaning regularly)
2️⃣ Carpentry + countertop on top of our washing machine.
We liked the idea of building a countertop on top for extra storage, but that would mean that we need a Front Load washing machine (which we don’t want). (picture visualization all thanks to AI)
Front load washer:
✅ Pros
• Can build countertop above → extra storage
• Aesthetic, cleaner built-in look
❌ Cons
• Need to squat/bend to load 😅
• Can’t easily add clothes mid-cycle
• Rubber seal can trap water → smell/mould if not aired
• Wash cycle longer
Honestly, the previous picture so looks much better, but we really want a Top Load washing machine so it’s a give and take. Bye aesthetics, hello practicality? 🤔
After visualization, the tall unit carpentry would be so useful. Not sure why we did not think of that during the renovation phase.
3️⃣ Floating Shelves
They look great, but thinking about installation and maintenance (cc: dust) made us procrastinate. Maybe in the future, but for now… we’re keeping it simple. ☺️
The plain walls allow us to add decoration on the walls during birthdays, and festive season etc. Shelves, maybe next time? 🤔 🤭
Do share if there’s anything that you want in your home, but choose not to because practicality > aesthetics.
