Amidst all the horror Reno and ID stories nowadays, we were very very blessed (and I don’t say this lightly) to have gotten a great, hands on ID, and an extremely smooth renovation process 🙏🏻.
We were actually supposed to move in at the end of Sept but we rushed to finish before Hungry Ghost Festival which was stressful on all of us… but we did it!
(This picture is messy as it was taken during our move-in week 😅 but the lighting’s pretty good no? Hehe)

Besides having the luck to get such a great ID (please reach out or comment if you’d like his info!), we also took our own steps to ensure that everything would turn out as we desired.

1) CREATING A DIRECTION DECK:
We created our own Canva deck of everything we wanted and expected in the home. As we consulted a fengshui master as well, we had to be very strict on those requirements and had to have it in black and white (especially since we heard many IDs try to play punk). 🚫
2) BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE:
This is how strict I mean when I say being strict HAHAHA. I even created a legend on particular areas of the floor plan and stated very clearly where I wanted things to go and how I expected them to look like.
It may seem or feel crazy and a lot of work - but I’ve got zero regrets because our house turned out SO CLOSE to my rendering and no one could try any BS about how we were not more specific blabla etc.
(We did make some changes so whatever you see here in the image doesn’t really translate! We changed the invisible grills to irusu meshes and changed the cat wall to a cat tree for more flexibility 🥹)

3) PUTTING PURCHASES IN THE RENDER:
We had actually narrowed down a lot of our purchases (both IRL and in online shops) so we passed the links and images to my ID to place them in the render just so we could see where things would go and if any of the purchases did not match the vibe we were going for.
It’s really only 3 steps on our end tbh and like that, we moved in without a glitch!
ONCE AGAIN - I do not discount that having an amazing and attentive ID helps 1000000%. And on top of that, we aren’t particularly detailed type A people, so we didn’t hunt down 30 IDs, narrowed down 10, spoke to 5 blabla. We literally signed up for Qanvast for a quote, our ID reached out to us on WhatsApp from there, I gave him my deck.. and TADA 😅.
Bonus point: We were actually in the talks with ONE other ID but we didn’t like her vibe as she felt stuck up and kept choosing the MOST expensive materials (???). So yeah always go with your gut about a person. If you don’t like your ID early on, make a swift change and that could change your life!
