Diving straight into our top 3 reno regrets which we thought we could live with, but if given the chance, would definitely make changes to them! So just a recap about 2monkeyshouse; our home is a 33-year-old resale HDB flat and we were working with a limited budget of 50k for our renovation. 🏠
Regret #1 is the lack of electrical power points around our home. No fault to our ID at all as we wanted to save a bit of money and thought that we could live with just having 2 power points in each room. Big mistake! 🙅🏻 To supplement the lack of power points then, we had to purchase more than a few extension cords which when not taken care of, can start to look very messy.
💡So word of advice here: Don’t scrimp and save on the power points! You never know when they might come in handy!
Regret #2 is our glass divider for our bathroom, specifically deciding to have it narrower as compared to wider. Due to our decision to have the glass divider align with our floor tile instead of extending a bit further at a slight increase in cost, we now have the issue of water splashing out of our bathing area. 🤡 This adds on some work on our end to keep the sink area dry and clean.
Regret #3 is N’s most recent headache; our kitchen countertop. When we first moved in, it was clean, minimal, and white, as we didn’t really cook much other than the occasional hotpot or instant noodles. However as we began to cook more often (bentos for work, home-cooked dinners, Sunday breakfasts), the maintenance of the countertop began to pile up. 😿
N has always wanted a stainless steel countertop and backsplash and in hindsight, it could have been a better choice as it would be easier for us to clean, and stains or scratches would age better and add to the look.
For those moving in soon or who are in the midst of doing renovations, we hope this has been useful and helps you dodge some of the bullets that we noticed! 🙉🙊
