One of those nagging little tasks finally done — meshing the front gate. Quotes for installation were $$$, but with a little DIY, I managed to do it for under $10.
The first time we rushed a mesh job (when we were bringing our first cat home), it looked unsightly. This round I took time to measure and cut properly, and the stainless steel mesh feels sturdier and more lasting.
I ordered 304 stainless steel mesh rolls from Taobao. Each roll was 0.6m x 2m, and 3 rolls cost me SGD $21.87. The seller also offers different widths and sizes, so you can choose what fits your gate or windows. I used 3m, that’s about $10 😄
The process is simple: cut the mesh to size, hold it against the gate, then secure with black zip ties. Scissors were enough for cutting, and trimming the ends kept it tidy.
The result: airflow still comes through, bugs stay out, and pets can’t squeeze through the bars. It’s not factory-perfect, but it works beautifully — and I saved a few hundred dollars by DIY-ing.
