This is our floor plan and how our aircon pipes set up in our home.
Many restrictions led to this. Of course we wanted our trunkings to be hidden as much as possible and obviously, it didn't happen haha
We also left the trunking exposed as we heard if there were issues with the aircon pipes, the box ups has to be torn down to rectify any leaks etc.
Just to stay on the safe side + to not lower our ceiling, we made this decision to keep it like this.
We had additional box up to hide the pipes across the top of our door - we later faced issues opening our carpentry because of this. Not pleased with HDB's planning of where the piping should go through but we move on with this!
On top of our challenges in the master bedroom, we couldn't hide our trunking in the common rooms since the structural beams were very low and close to the door frame.
If we wanted trunking there, the trunking would cover more than half the door frame and risk damaging the door frame as well. It was a risk we were not willing to take so we put our trunking on the outside of the common rooms.
Next problem, how to hide the trunking outside?
We agreed to box up and flush it to the ceiling but now there is a curb on our corner. I think we got a rude shock and panicked.
I think what confused us is that our ID says this is normal. But we feel like we won't be able to ignore it as it is sticking out like a sore thumb.
The alternative was to allow the aircon to sink lower to hide the curb which did not sound feasible to us either.
It's your home. Always know that you have the final say! We proposed for the ID to curve the corner instead to her dismay.
I don't understand the concern but we verified with another designer friend that with a curve, there are "too many" lines which is why our ID did not particularly like it!
We went back to her and communicated on our preferences and also acknowledged her concerns. So we pushed on (despite the cost)!
In the end, we got what we wanted and were very happy with the end product!
We really appreciated that our ID was willing to explain to us on why she made certain proposals and alternatives. I think it is soooo important to have good communication with your IDs!
Please remember to always ask why and challenge for what you want!
