Hello! In this post, we will talk about what you will need for your key collection appointment and also your first visit to your new place!
Key collection appointment
If you have just received the notification from HDB on the date for your key collection, congratulations! For most of us, this is one of the biggest milestones in our lives and we couldn’t wait for the appointment to come sooner. However, do remember a few key things to consider / prepare beforehand:
1. Submit your marriage certificate: If you have booked your flat under the married couple scheme, you may submit your marriage certificate via the HDB portal ahead of the appointment
2. Purchase your fire insurance: Instead of spending the time to purchase the fire insurance on the spot during your key collection appointment, you can simply purchase it online via Etiqa’s website. The whole process will take you at most 5-10 minutes to complete!
3. Download the AXS app: This is used to make the payment for the conservancy charges on the day of your appointment. Don’t worry if you don’t have the app, as there is always a web option which you can use.
4. Consider the number of years of repayment for your HDB loan: While the officer will compute a few variations for you to consider, it may be good to have an idea of the monthly repayment you will have to make before the appointment.
5. Keeping up to $20k in your CPF account: Before your appointment, do also think about whether you would like to wipe out your entire ordinary account in your CPF so that you have less loan to repay, or to keep up to $20k in your account but have a larger loan amount to repay in the coming years.
After considering the above, you are more or less set for your appointment!
💡On a side note, if you are looking to go down to your flat to test out the electrical and water points on the first few days after getting your keys, do remember to go to the SP website to open your account beforehand.
First visit to your flat
As you prepare to head down to your flat, these are some items which you can bring for your first visit:
1. Pineapple: For the huats 🍍
2. Screwdriver and spanner: This is for you to turn on your water supply, where you have to remove 2 screws from inside your riser to attach the 2 taps / knobs to turn on your water supply. However, one of our screws got stuck and we managed to get our defect check person to use a spanner to turn on the other tap for us. If you want to check your water supply on your first visit, do bring a spanner just in case! If any of your screws are stuck, you can drop PUB or your BSC office a call and they will get someone to come down to replace the screw for you.
3. Measuring tape, marker and tape: The measuring tape is for you to measure out the dimensions of the actual flat. Marker and tape are for you to mark out the areas in the flat according to the floor plan prepared by your ID so that you can visualise how the space will look like.
4. Portable fan: For the sweltering SG heat ♨️
5. 2 door stoppers: To keep your main door open at the start, you will need 2 door stoppers (stacked for the height) given that the flooring might not be done (depending on whether you opted for the OCS) and there will be a significant gap between the floor and the door.
With that, this should be sufficient for your first visit to your new flat!
