We customised a total of 12 panels of insect meshes for our 4-rm BTO, including the living room, bedrooms and toilet windows for under $500 (exclude shipping + handyman installation cost).
This was still relatively affordable compared to most local vendors’ prices starting at $1.5k to $2k; as for material wise we weren’t fussy for this, since the sole objective was just to prevent big insects from flying in.
We ultimately chose to do the mesh for the entire height of the windows, including the top panel while some people might have the mesh for the main panel only. There’s also the option to do separate meshes for the top & bottom panels, but this would definitely cost more than having one large panel from top to bottom.
Pros
• Extremely affordable
• Functional & does its job
• Choice of materials (there’s glass fibre, PET, stainless steel)
• Choice of colours
Cons
• Dependent on your own measurements accuracy
• Shipping duration
• Handle assembly/ installation on your own
• Retractable “lock” to engage after sliding is quite loud (not that it bothers us haha)
Overall, ours turned out well and our handyman did a great job installing & mounting them. The meshes from this seller are true to pics and work just fine, so no complaints!
A reference of how I communicated with the Taobao seller—just measurements and images of the actual windows; although they aren’t able to customise the sliding direction. The retractable storage would be on the left or at the top, and the sliding would only be from left to right or top to bottom.
