It’s hard to believe it’s been closed to two years since we started our home renovation journey. Reflecting on the process, this was actually the second time we worked with our interior designer, and it was just as exciting as the first time. Right at the beginning, our ID gave us a little “homework”: to think carefully about what we liked and the kind of home we wanted to create. At first, we were a bit overwhelmed — there was so much to consider! But looking back, this exercise was incredibly helpful. It forced us to reflect on our personal style, daily needs, and the overall atmosphere we wanted for our home, and it made the collaboration much smoother.
Our previous home had a Scandinavian theme, which felt a little “cold” to us, so this time we wanted something warmer. We decided on a modern organic & cream aesthetic style, which feels cozy, timeless, and inviting. To help communicate what we envisioned, we crafted a mood board filled with all the little things we like.
We also used Instagram and Pinterest to save pins — little snippets of inspiration that show our taste. Here’s a peek at our Insta saved pins — every “like” counts, and our ID tried to sort through them to figure out exactly what we wanted.
The discussion went through a few rounds of bouncing ideas back and forth. Each round felt like a mini “aha” moment — sometimes we discovered things we didn’t realize we liked, other times we realized certain ideas didn’t quite fit. We even shared our Pinterest boards and Instagram saved pins with our ID, which made it easier to visualize our tastes. Since we aren’t trained in art or design, using professional design software isn’t our strong suit, but that’s where our ID’s expertise really shone. They guided us through interpreting our mood boards and pins, helping turn our scattered ideas into a cohesive vision.
After several rounds of brainstorming, our ID created renderings of the space. That was a turning point — suddenly, we could see our ideas come to life. The renderings helped us understand proportions, color balance, and how different elements would interact in the space. It was a moment of clarity where our modern organic & cream aesthetic started to feel real, warm, and inviting.
Looking back now, the entire process feels like a journey of discovery — not just about designing a home, but about understanding our own style and preferences. Two years later, we still love the thoughtfulness, creativity, and collaboration that went into creating a space that truly feels like ours. 🏡💛
