The gangsagem theory for kitchen organisation: keep it out of sight. It’s not just a visual thing! It makes cleaning SO much easier as well because there’s less “wiping” to do on individual objects.
The top drawer houses our regular cutlery within easy reach. Since we access this drawer the most, it makes the most sense. We also have our saucers here for chilli sauce and such.
Drawer 2: cooking utensils! It’s not easy to find minimalist looking utensils and they stain easily too! For the future, I may consider getting grey utensils instead.
Final drawer: cling wrap, aluminium foil and baking paper live here, together with rarely used kitchen items that are large and bulky since this drawer is the deepest.
To the left of our fridge, we store all our dinnerware, colanders, cups and other random items we use to cook. They can be on the same side as the stove since heat is less likely to affect them. We’re blessed with lots of storage, and given that we don’t have that many items, it seems like we have quite a bit of space.
The drawer under the stove houses our cooking pots and pans! This is just right for the two of us. Less pots and pans = less storage required since they have the same function!
Pull-out drawers for your hot devices are a must, I say! I never knew about these until I started doing some research for my own home. This helps to let the heat dissipate into the air rather than being trapped in your carpentry and possibly damaging your laminates.
Definitely inform your contractor/ID about this early on as these pull-out drawers need to be heavy duty to hold the weight of your electrical appliance.
This turntable that fits perfectly in our overhead cupboard is a godsent! As a vertically challenged person, it’s bliss that I get to spin to find my condiment rather than having to get on a chair so that I do not knock anything over.
Is this a cupboard of shame? 🫣 We do have many spices and dried items here that have no proper storage BUT the overhead cupboard is thankfully large enough that everything fits well. 😅
