As first-time homeowners, we initially felt overwhelmed and unsure where to start with our renovation planning. However, we found this event to be incredibly beneficial for us and we even got $50 CapitaLand vouchers for speaking to 6 IDs 🤭 Speaking with different interior designers helped us understand key terms, refine our preferences, receive practical advice, and explore various alternatives for our home 🏠
We learned many new terms like track/cove lighting, sintered stone, marble grout, integrated sink, ABS trimming, storage heater vs city gas, niche, shaker style, skirting, tic tac door and HDB waterproofing warranty, just to name a few. This experience not only clarified our preferences but also broaden our understanding of design options and renovation process. By the time we met with our 4th or 5th ID, we felt more confident in our choices for furniture orientation and layout, and better prepared to make informed decisions for our future home.
Kudos to the 1st ID who was exceptionally patient, spending around 1.5 hours discussing our needs and addressing our uncertainties 👍
To help others who are embarking on their renovation journey, we've compiled a list of commonly asked questions segmented by Living Room/Entryway, Kitchen, Bedrooms, Bathrooms. We hope this will be a valuable resource for anyone starting out! 🤗✨
We also greatly appreciated IDs who were upfront about what couldn't be done and offered better alternatives. One ID, in particular, recommended omitting the glass shower screen in the common bathroom if we were planning to have kids, to make bathing easier for children. This made a lot of sense to us, especially after seeing how cramped some of our friends’ toilet BTO units are for the same 4-room unit size. Our friend even demonstrated by carrying his son into the toilet and explained that they don't use the common bathroom because it’s too small to help his son to bathe. Not surprising that he told us it was his top reno regret 🤣
Highly recommend attending home event if you are just starting out on your renovation journey, especially if you prefer a one-stop experience to meet and greet multiple interior designers firms in one go!
