First up, our latest Alocasia plant bought a few months ago which has blossomed from initial 3 leaves to 5 now!
We fell in love with this at first sight decided to bring it home right away. This was bought purchased on World Farm, a garden center located in Jurong East for only $8.
Maintenance ease: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This plant has been far easier to care for than we expected! We simply water it once a week — or whenever the soil feels dry — and it’s been thriving ever since. It’s been such a fuss-free and rewarding addition to our plant collection. 🌿
Our avocado plant was literally planted from a little avocado seed that was left after we ate the fruit.
Simply peel off the skin of the seed, wrap it up in wet paper towel, place it in a ziplock bag and store it in a dark corner of the house. Wait for a couple of weeks, check back occasionally (replace the wet paper towel if it’s getting dry or too mushy) and wait for the roots to sprout!
After which, place the seedling on top of a jar of water with the root submerged. Transfer to soil when leaves have grown out. And that’s how.. our little avocado plant began its journey!
Ease of maintenance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Honestly not very easy to maintain as avocado plant leaves droop easily when they are lacking water and suffer from root rot if there’s is overwatering. We water every 2-3 days and constantly monitor the leaves condition and the soil for its texture.
Our open glass terrariums were made at Horti Plant in Mid Valley Southkey as a little date idea — and it turned out to be such a fun experience! We got to design and arrange everything ourselves, which made it feel extra special and personal.
Ease of maintenance: ⭐️⭐️
Honestly, they’re not the easiest to care for. Because of the open glass design, it’s harder to control moisture levels. The plants are more prone to root rot if overwatered, and sometimes they grow a little too freely and end up looking quite messy. Definitely pretty to look at but they do require careful monitoring! 🌿
Our asparagus fern has received so many compliments from our guests — some even thought it was from Soilboy! But it’s actually just a $9 find from a small plant shop in the CBD. We simply repotted it into a more aesthetic pot, and it completely elevated the look.
Ease of maintenance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️
It’s moderately easy to care for, but it does require regular monitoring. We make sure to trim the leaves to keep it looking neat and healthy, and check in on its overall condition every now and then. With a little upkeep, it continues to thrive and stay photo-ready! 🌿
This was just a random peppermint stem that we decided to propagate — and it turned into the cutest little hydroponic plant for decoration! We placed a single stem into a glass pot filled with water, and it’s been growing beautifully ever since.
Ease of maintenance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Super easy to care for. Since it’s grown hydroponically, there’s barely any fuss — we don’t even have to change the water often. Roots started sprouting from the stem within just a few days, and soon after, new shoots began to grow. It’s honestly one of the most low-maintenance and rewarding plants we have! 🌿
One thing we’ve learned from our little plant journey: you really don’t need to spend a fortune to have a thriving, beautiful plant collection. From a humble avocado seed to a $9 asparagus fern, and even a random peppermint stem, each of these plants has brought so much joy and life into our home — all without breaking the bank. 🌿
It’s proof that with a little care, patience, and creativity, even the simplest, most affordable plants can flourish and become the stars of your space.
