Let’s talk about how we organise our kitchen and what has been working well for us so far!
Our top cabinets are reserved for lighter, less frequently used items like paper towels and extra containers. It keeps things out of the way, but still within reach when we need them.
The first tier cabinets are where we keep our everyday cooking essentials, from condiments to dry goods like pasta, noodles and canned food. Having everything within arm’s reach really makes cooking feel more seamless and less hectic.
One small change that made a surprisingly big difference was getting a lazy Susan for our condiments. We used to have items getting “lost” at the back, but now everything is visible with just a simple turn. It is a small addition, but it has really improved how we use the space day to day.
You might notice we still kept a dish rack even though we have a dishwasher 😂 It was something our ID provided for free, and it turned out to be more useful than we expected. We use it to hold our clean dishes so we do not have to put everything away immediately. It also makes it easy to grab plates one by one. For now, since it is just the two of us, we do not have that many plates and bowls yet, so this setup fits our daily routine quite naturally.
We also added two small niches at the side to house our guests’ cups and taller water bottles, which helps keep the counter neater.
For drawers, we tried to keep things intuitive. The first drawer holds our cutlery and frequently used cookware so everything is easy to reach. The cutlery basket is movable!
Heavier pots and pans are stored below the oven, and since we are using a Blum system, the drawers can handle the weight well. We just kick it back in after we have retrieve the pots we want to use for the day 😂
