How We Hosted an Intimate ROM at Home in Singapore 🕊️💍

I’ve seen people rent out their homes for filming, acting, or photoshoots… but have you ever heard of someone using their home for an ROM? 💍 
Olive hit a big milestone last week — my sister held her intimate ROM ceremony right here at our home. She’s based in Berlin and only back for a month, and with the ROM centre fully booked (plus restaurants quoting over $10k just to reserve a private area), it just didn’t make sense for a guest list of only 10–15 people. 
So we thought — why not use Olive instead? A few faux flowers, tablecloths, and decorations from Taobao later, the space transformed into the sweetest little setup. After the ceremony, we kept it cosy with dinner at a restaurant, followed by an afterparty for drinks. 
If you’re considering a DIY ROM setup at home, here’s what worked for us: 1. Book your ROM ceremony off-site
You’ll need to engage your chosen solemniser directly (confirm the time and location) and prepare all required documents with ROM. 2. Pick the perfect space
Choose a part of your home with good natural light and a simple backdrop — your living room or dining area usually works best. 3. Keep the décor simple
You don’t need much! Faux flowers, tablecloths, fairy lights or candles can completely transform a space without spending much. Most of ours were from Taobao and Shopee. 4. Plan your celebration flow
Keep the ROM intimate at home, then move on to dinner or drinks elsewhere. It gives you the best of both worlds — cosy and celebratory. 
All in all, hosting an intimate ROM at home turned out to be one of the most special experiences we’ve had at Olive. It reminded us that love doesn’t need grand venues or fancy price tags — just intention, warmth, and a little creativity. It even sparked an idea for us to explore this as a passion project in the future, for now, it remains one of the sweetest memories our home will ever hold.
