What's inside your DB box?
When we first moved in, we always thought we'd end up installing shelves inside to keep our shoes... until our ID never offered shelves and we realised getting custom shelves from a local company would cost anything from $150-$200 because of the irregular shape of the interior.
Our DB box remained empty for >2 years until we finally bit the bullet and decided to make use of this precious stoage space - scroll down to see what it looks like now!
It's... actually full of shoes :D
instead of getting custom shelves installed, we decided to hunt down some ready made storage solutions from our favourite place - Taobao!
We found this super slim shoe rack that fit the EXACT depth of our already shallow DB box - bought it, installed it, and found that it fits up to 6 pairs of shoes (if you are a large footed person) or 8 pairs (if you're a tiny person). Currently, Duck occupies the first 2 rows, while Frog occupies the last one with his giant shoes.
The installation was super easy - Duck got it done single handedly within 30 mins and the rack has been quite sturdy (but we haven't put anything extremely heavy on it to be fair)
The top of the rack has a flat platform/shelf where we keep our internet router (? not sure what this is, but it's the internet thingy that always sits in our DB box LOL) - we used to balance this on top of the circuit breaker box so having it sit on a flat shelf is a much safer solution LOL.
We also have a little box where we keep some of the less-used things we have for going out e.g. extra umbrellas, a Jisu life fan, extra glasses, spare grocery bags, etc etc
and because this rack is made from METAL (unlike custom shelves which are wood), we've attached these tiny magnetic hooks which we use to hang extra keys, key chains, or in Ducky's words, all the 'ling ling long long' that she likes to put on her bags LOL.
And what about the extra space at the side of the DB box?
We've recycled this cable holder we bought (was an absolute fail LOL it worked for only 2 days) into a stand to hold up all our rolls of stuff. By rolls, I mean things like drawer liners, wrapping papers, anti-oil film - basically everything that comes in a huge roll form, which is super difficult to store LOL.
And that's it for our DB box storage!
Managed to get everything done for less than $20 - our shoe rack was about $12 and the magnetic hooks were maybe $5-ish? We bought a few different ones to be used in different parts of our home.
It's not the most aesthetic storage solution for sure - definitely doesn't look as good as custom shelves, but for a fraction of the price, we'd say it has met all our requirements. Plus we're happy to keep things flexible in this space so we still have the option to change up things in future if we have more things to store :)
